Sidequesting is a guide to things to do in Bengaluru. You can browse all of it without an account. This page says what we collect when you use it and what we do with it.

What we collect

When you just browse

We count visits with Vercel Web Analytics. It does not use cookies and does not follow you across sites. It records the page you viewed, the referring site, your country, and your browser, operating system and device type. It does not store your IP address or build a profile of you.

Our host, Vercel, keeps standard server logs (such as IP address and request time) for security and operations.

If you sign in

Signing in is optional. With Google, we receive your email address, name and profile picture from Google. With email, we receive your email address. Sign-in is handled by Supabase Auth, which sets a cookie to keep you signed in for up to 30 days.

If you are signed in, we store the quests you save and mark as visited, and your preferences, so we can personalise the site for you.

If you send us a quest

The form on the Send a quest page stores what you type: a place name, area, note, link and optional contact detail. To limit spam we keep a one-way hash of your IP address for a short time to count how many submissions come from one place. We cannot turn the hash back into your IP address.

On your device

We keep a few small items in your browser storage, such as saved quests when you are signed out and whether we have already shown the sign-in prompt. These stay on your device.

What we do with it

  • Run the site, keep you signed in and remember your saves.
  • Personalise which quests we show you, if you are signed in.
  • Review quest suggestions and reply if you asked us to.
  • Understand which pages and devices matter, in aggregate, so we can improve the site.
  • Prevent spam and abuse.

We do not sell your data and we do not show ads.

Who else handles it

  • Vercel: hosting and analytics.
  • Supabase: database and sign-in.
  • Google: if you choose Sign in with Google.
  • YouTube and Instagram: if a page shows an embedded video or post, they may set their own cookies when you play or load it. See their policies.
  • OpenFreeMap: serves map tiles, so it sees your IP address when the map loads.

Some of these providers process data outside India.

How long we keep it

Account data, saves and visits stay until you ask us to delete them or delete your account. Submissions are kept while we review them and for as long as the place is listed. Rate-limit hashes are short-lived counters.

Your choices

You can browse without signing in, clear your browser storage at any time, and block cookies. You can ask us to see, correct or delete the personal data we hold about you, and to withdraw consent for anything that depends on it. Email us and we will act on it within a reasonable time.

Children

Sidequesting is not meant for children under 18, and we do not knowingly collect their data.

Changes

If we change this page in a way that matters, we will update the date above.
